PLAYDAY 2005

For the past few years ESTA-Italia has organised a day dedicated to youth and the string orchestra. Students from all over Italy meet in Florence to rehearse and then perform compositions that they have prepared by themselves. The initiative which started several years ago has always achieved a considerable success and has given many youngsters the opportunity to play in an orchestra for the first time.For this edition there will be two orchestras,one that is for beginners until 5th year conservatory (old system) and the other that requires a level of 5th year and above.The two orchestras will be conducted rispectively by Maestri Janet Zadow and Paolo Crispo.

COMPETITION FOR YOUNG STRING PLAYERS

Since 1996 ESTA-Italia has organised a ‘Competion for Young String Players' on a yearly basis.The competition is preceded by the ‘Meet on the Concert Platform' during which the preliminary selections are made. This event is more of a festival than a competition in the traditional sense: its aim is not simply to select the best and reward the most able,but to stimulate and motivate the study of the instrument by giving the youngsters an opportunity to compare themseves with their peers and to provide a forum for students,teachers and parents to exchange ideas.
The competition will be divided into age catagories and solo/chamber music catagories.
